STAGES AND REASONS TO OBTAIN SPANISH NATIONALITY
YOU CAN APPLY FOR SPANISH NATIONALITY THROUGH THIS LAW IF...
They were born outside of Spain to a father/mother, grandfather/grandmother, who would have originally been Spanish. It is not required to prove that they emigrated in a specific period nor is it affected by the country in which they settled.
They were born outside Spain to a father/mother, grandfather/grandmother, who had originally been Spanish and who, as a consequence of having suffered exile for political, ideological, belief or sexual orientation and identity reasons, had lost or renounced the Spanish nationality.
They are sons/daughters of Spanish women who lost their nationality by marrying foreigners before the Spanish Constitution (12/28/1978) entered into force.
They are sons/daughters who could not be naturalized as Spanish as they were of legal age at the time the Spanish father or mother obtained the Spanish Nationality of origin by the Historical Memory Law (Law 52/2007).
They are any child of Spanish parents who obtained Spanish Nationality of origin through the previous Historical Memory Law (Law 52/2007).
You obtained Spanish Nationality by option as children of parents who were originally Spanish (Law 36/2002).
STEPS TO OBTAIN SPANISH NATIONALITY THROUGH THE DEMOCRATIC MEMORY LAW IN SPAIN
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION
The deadline to request Spanish Nationality through the new Grandchildren’s Law is a maximum of 24 months starting from 20th October 2022, i.e., until 20/10/24.
PRESENTATION OF THE FILE
The application is submitted at the Spanish Consulate covering the city/town of residence of the interested parties, belonging to the corresponding country.
PREPARATION OF THE FILE
It is essential to present the perfect and complete file to avoid instance of additional 30 days being added to correct any errors detected, as if this occurs, your file may be archived and your expectation of being Spanish may consequently be frustrated.
REGISTRATION OF YOUR FILE
We help in obtaining an in-person appointment with the corresponding consulate and advise on the day when you are required to attend the Spanish Consulate in person.
GRANTING AND FORMALISATION OF NATIONALITY
Once Spanish Nationality has been granted, we help in the process of formalising nationality, with registration in the Civil Registry and in the process to obtain the DNI (National Identity Card) and the corresponding Spanish passport.
SPANISH NATIONALITY FOR THE FAMILY
If you have children of legal age, once Spanish Nationality has been requested, we can begin the nationalisation process for them, as some consulates are allowing applications to be submitted depending on the parents' file even without those yet being resolved, which can save a great deal of time.
ADVANTAGES OF OBTAINING SPANISH NATIONALITY
Nationality of origin is granted (as if you were born in Spain), that is, once you obtain citizenship, you can pass it on it to your children and grandchildren.
You do not need to reside in Spain to obtain it.
Obtaining nationality does not require you to pay taxes in Spain (unless you decide reside in Spain permanently).
Obtaining Spanish Nationality does not force you to renounce your original nationality (they are compatible).
It grants you not only Spanish Citizenship, but also European Citizenship, which allows you to travel and work freely throughout Europe.
The Spanish passport is the third most powerful in the world (after Japan and Singapore), and allows you to travel to more than 190 countries without the need to apply for any type of visa.
